Technology Means a
Changing Courtroom
By Scott Huseby
RPR, CCR, Notary

Technological advances in information management
have created exciting and productive trends in the
legal industry. Any litigator knows about the volumes
and volumes of documentary evidence that can and does
get produced in litigation. Managing all that
information effectively and then presenting it in a
powerful presentation is what lawyers try to do every
day.
Thus it's crucial for a modern law firm to stay
up-to-date with the rapidly evolving technology
designed to make life easier for attorneys in all
fields of practice.
Documents that are going to be used in a trial can
now be placed on CD-ROM, which is then carried to the
courtroom. With a laptop computer, special software,
plus monitors linking the participants, documents,
videos, photos, reenactments and models can be
presented in an extremely effective manner.
This type of information management is important
for firms who want to
stay ahead of the technology curve and save a great
deal of their most precious commodity: time.
Courtroom technological innovations are now
enhancing local, state and federal courtrooms in the
Charlotte area which is now home to the state's first
Computer Integrated Courtroom (CIC).
In addition to the type of information management
described above, the CIC includes numerous innovations
designed to benefit attorneys, judges, court
personnel, witnesses, jurors and ultimately help the
entire justice system save time and effort.
While state-of-the-art court reporting and video
presentations are incredibly useful to the legal
community, other innovations are proving to be useful
to the litigator. These include real-time reporting
through the internet, interpreters, single source
billing and management reporting.
With all the changes happening in the field of
information technology, and the demands on litigators
increasing every day, lawyers in all specialties can
benefit from and should keep up with all the latest
advances.
