Why Do Huseby Clients Prefer a US-Based Court Reporting Agency?

Offshore labor is a hot topic today as companies attempt to cut costs. In theory it is just as easy to use offshore court reporting services as it is to use domestic, but at Huseby we understand the dangers involved in using offshore court reporters.

Huseby Uses Only the Best

The Huseby court reporting agency takes the job of recruiting staff very seriously. Our clients depend on the performance and discretion of our reporters and we hire only the most skilled and trustworthy applicants.

The US government has standards that any college or university, including court reporting schools, must meet in order to be accredited. Many countries hold their educational institutions to a similar standard, but not all do.

In addition to strict educational regulations, most states in the US also require court reporters to be certified. Certification demonstrates not only an existing level of skill and commitment to a code of ethics, but ongoing education to maintain proficiency. An offshore court reporting agency may be in a country with no certification standards, leaving no way to gauge the ability of a reporter.

We Value Client Privacy

We deal with critical and sensitive information on a daily basis and nothing is more important to a court reporting agency than safeguarding that information. Our reporters might take a transcript that contains a company's trade secrets or a child's age and home address.

Privacy rules in other countries may not be so strict. Consider the case of a Philippine court reporter who tried to pressure a client into paying by threatening to publish medical records of US citizens. Such conduct would not be tolerated in the US and would never happen at Huseby.

Not only do our reporters practice the highest levels of professional discretion, but all of our electronic information is carefully safeguarded against intrusion. One never knows how safe an offshore computer system might be.

Offshoring Isn't Even An Option

Although Huseby is a nationwide court reporting agency, we employ local court reporters in all of our service areas. Why? Because legal proceedings are regulated by a complicated web of federal, state, and local regulations. A reporter from Los Angeles couldn't be expected to know the court administrative rules in Atlanta, so how could a reporter from Hong Kong?

Improper procedure could cause a mistrial or prejudice the case unfairly. This is absolutely unacceptable to our reporters.

Private corporations who retain court reporters aren't exempt from the problems of offshoring. Consider the case of the medical records mentioned above. A company that retained a reporter like that would not only risk violating their customers' privacy but could face legal penalties for violating HIPAA or other privacy regulations.

Although using offshore labor might be valid for some industries, it is not acceptable in court reporting. Trust that Huseby employs only skilled and certified domestic reporters.
