Huseby Is Positioned To Weather Hard Economic Times

In our years in this industry we have seen court reporting change in many ways, some good and some bad.  As a court reporting agency we have seen fluctuating workloads and worked hard to keep our staff employed.  We firmly believe there are better times ahead, but we must tighten our belts to get there.

First, The Bad News...

We understand the frustration court reporters feel as short-sighted decisions are made to replace them with digital recorders.  Court reporting schools are closing down and NCRA membership is dropping.

We must remain encouraged by the overwhelming evidence that nothing takes the place of a certified court reporter.  Some court systems are even now realizing their mistake and struggling to recruit reporters while others are still on the learning curve.

In addition to the problems in our own industry, we have the issues our nation faces.  The mortgage crises, rising gas and food prices, the failure of companies once believed sound has us all wondering about our futures.

Is your best bet for the future working with a court reporting agency like Huseby?  Absolutely, yes.

Huseby Adapts To Changes In The Industry

Our first commitment as a court reporting agency is to our staff.  While we believe all of our court systems will reverse this move away from using reporters, in some areas it may take some time.

This is a good opportunity for reporters to work on certification.  We firmly believe all court reporters should have at least the RPR certification and should go beyond that.  Certification broadens your skill set and makes you more valuable to Huseby and to the clients you work for.

Many reporters still have their minds stuck in the courtrooms.  The Huseby court reporting agency has many clients other than court systems.  Private industry uses reporters to keep accurate records.  Television stations use our reporters to provide closed captioning.  Other services such as video conferencing lead to other opportunities.

We Are All On The Same Team

As courtroom opportunities decline, some reporters have fallen to competing over jobs.  This debases the industry and is not the behavior one would expect from a professional.

We hope that Huseby court reporters won't sink to that level.  We in the industry must all stand together, united against the forces that threaten our profession.  As long as there has been writing, people like us have kept accurate records of the spoken word.  We may have moved from clay tablets to parchment and inkwells to computers with real-time voice recognition, but the fundamental purpose remains the same.  We are protectors of the record.

If you aren't working for a court reporting agency, consider joining the Huseby team.  There is strength in numbers and we think you will face better prospects as part of our organization than you will on your own.
