Huseby, Inc. Expands and Enhances VIP21 Service
RELEASED 07/2007
Implementation of VIP21 improvements to Huseby’s litigation
support tools gives perpetual access to deposition transcripts
VIP21 integrates with Dejima Direct™ to provide advanced
search capabilities over a wide range of criteria
Charlotte, North Carolina – June 1, 2007 –
Huseby, Inc., the premier national court reporting
service, has announced the implementation of an upgraded and
expanded VIP21 to its suite of litigation support tools. These
application improvements provide Huseby clients with enhanced
abilities to access, leverage, and browse the repository of
VIP21 deposition transcripts using a range of options and
search criteria. Integration of Dejima Direct™ from
Dejima, Inc., a leading provider of interface technology
for enterprise and mobile applications, facilitates VIP21
searches using natural language queries. VIP21 natural
language search techniques are performed through a client’s
desktop computer or wireless device by accessing the Huseby
website or using e-mail.
“At Huseby we’re constantly looking for new technologies to
enhance our user experience,” remarks Scott Huseby, President
and Chief Executive Officer of Huseby. “The integration of
Dejima Direct to VIP21 empowers our clients with constant
access to transcripts in the most intuitive way – by using
their own words. In as little as one step, our clients will
have the information they need. Since the recent VIP21
upgrade, we’ve seen a 28% increase in usage of VIP21
searches.”
While VIP21 users may still search the database by using
familiar tools providing search criteria available from
drop-down lists, the chief advantage to Huseby’s improved
VIP21 product is that the service has been configured to
accept natural language queries such as “transcripts with the
word Tuberculosis” or “transcripts with plaintiff Jones.”
Additionally, the complete VIP21 service can be accessed over
interfaces designed for e-mail and wireless devices through an
environment that closely mimics that used on a client’s
desktop computer.
To begin a natural language search, users simply enter a
request in the VIP21 desktop interface search box, the
wireless web interface request box, or into the subject line
of an e-mail. Searches of VIP21 transcripts can include such
criteria as case name, plaintiff name, defendant name,
scheduling attorney, deposing attorney, witness name, field of
expertise, city, state, and date range. The flexibility of
natural language searches permit users to input abbreviations
or custom phrases and, over time, even learns patterns of
specific user requests.
VIP21 transcript results are displayed in formats that are
most appropriate for the criteria used to perform the database
search. Users can easily jump to specific document sections by
using readily available navigation tools. By utilizing the
transcript’s concordance, an alphabetical listing of the
principal words in a document, users are able to instantly
access pages of the transcript containing an occurrence of a
desired word.
“Our attorneys and paralegals are thrilled with the enhanced
search capabilities and improved access to VIP21,” comments
David Furr, Managing Partner of Gastonia, North Carolina-based
Grey, Layton, Kirsch, Solomon and Furr, a Huseby VIP21 client.
“We actually have clients calling and asking us to show them
the service.”
Another VIP21 client, Fred Hubbs, Esq., of Hall, Booth and
Smith in Atlanta, shares Furr’s enthusiasm. Hubbs says that
the improved transcript access gained by being able to search
the database over a mobile device (such as his BlackBerry)
will produce a multitude of benefits for his law firm. “This
is a great tool for use with my BlackBerry,” he exclaims. “It
saves a lot of time and readily provides me with transcript
information.”
“BlackBerry customers in legal professions understand the
competitive advantages that can be gained from a combination
of constant connectivity with a user-friendly interface and
the right applications. With the enhanced VIP21, Dejima
Direct, and BlackBerry, attorneys achieve enhanced workflow,
increased productivity, and improved client service,” observes
Mark Guibert, vice president of corporate marketing for
Research in Motion.
Dejima Direct enables Independent Software Vendors, Service
Providers, and Systems integrators to offer customers access
to corporate data and transactions via their own words over
e-mail, wireless messaging, the web, or speech interfaces.
Originally implemented as a tool for many leading Customer
Relationship Management (CRM) applications, the expansion of
Dejima Direct into the legal market provides a much-needed
solution to professions that increasingly require advanced and
more efficient means to search large amounts of data using a
variety of criteria.
“We’re seeing great momentum for Dejima Direct and are excited
to use the insights we've gained working with CRM applications
to benefit the legal market,” said Antoine Blondeau, CEO of
Dejima. “Whether in the office, on the road, or in the
courtroom during a trial, VIP21 with Dejima Direct ensures
that lawyers can access data critical to their efforts
supporting their clients when it's needed most.”
