Court reporting roundup: Retirements add up in Washington, California school closure leaves students in the lurch

A Moreno Valley, California school that specializes in training court reporters shut its doors on Tuesday. The abrupt closure stranded about 350 students. “They said … they would take care of us,” one student said. (San Diego Union Tribune)

Court reporting roundup: Accolades for retirees in Windsor, Ontario, the Cayman Islands

StenkeysLooking for an excuse to work in the Cayman Islands? Here’s a heads up:

Three members of the Cayman law courts whose combined experience totals 25 years in the courts recently retired, according to the Caymanian Compass.

Among them, Kerri Francella was singled out for her reporting work.

“Like the other members of the court reporting team, she is a true professional and very accomplished at what she does,” the court’s chief justice said. “Real-time court reporting is a very demanding job and a skill that takes many years of honing to acquire.”

Windsor reporter retires In Windsor, Ontario, the retirement of reporter Richard Lafreniere also made news.

Part of the reason is his 49 years on the job. The other part is his having sat with 118 judges. The Windsor Star proposes this is a world record. Think so? Let us know.
