Let Huseby Host Your Next In-Person Deposition

From the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our priority has been the safety and well-being of our clients, reporters, videographers and team members.  That meant responding quickly to clients that depended on us to keep their cases moving forward and providing the latest in technology to offer every service available as if you were sitting across the conference room table from the reporter and deponent, and to have those things available in a remote setting quickly.

As communities begin to re-open and relax shelter-in-place restrictions, you can continue to count on us to provide you with the highest levels of service and support for all of your court reporting needs, whether you choose to continue remotely or move back to in-person depositions across the country.

We're Open!

Beginning June 1st, our offices will be open to attend depositions in-person and we wanted to share a bit about how we’re carrying forward our commitment for the safety and well-being of our clients, reporters, videographers and team members as we return to normal in a safe way.  With guidance from local, state and national health officials, our commitment is to only move forward with re-opening offices once we’re confident we can serve your deposition needs safely.  With that in mind, we are implementing a series of steps and tools to make our environment as safe as possible.

Step One

First, in every office we are focused on limiting occupancy and providing everyone with plenty of room to stay safely socially distant.  When you visit our offices, you will see signage reminding you to help us all manage spacing of at least 6 feet.  We have provided different layouts of conference rooms as guidelines for our offices.

Step Two

Second, face coverings will be required for all team members, reporters and videographers.  Where not required by local health officials, face coverings are also recommended for clients and deponents - especially when moving freely around the office.  In most places, we are adding portable barriers made of plexiglass for added safety where a questioning attorney would prefer a deponent not wear a face covering when on the record.

Step Three

Third, we will be asking health question checks at the door to screen for those with symptoms or who have been exposed to someone either showing COVID-19 symptoms or someone who has been infected with COVID-19.  Throughout the day and after each deposition, we are conducting enhanced cleaning with a special emphasis on high traffic areas and hard surfaces such as tables, chairs and doorknobs.

For more information, click here to view a short video on how we plan to return to in-person depositions safely.  If you are not yet ready to return to in-person depositions, you can continue to use alternative ways to remotely attend depositions and access case files effectively.  By leveraging our technology solutions, you can securely:

  •  Attend events, such as depositions or meetings, remotely.
  • Access all work product remotely, including transcripts, exhibits and video files.
  • Transfer files to Huseby Support team members to facilitate upcoming events, such as the need to print exhibits for the witness.

Everyday situations will vary by community and state, but we will do everything we can to be available to serve you.  If you have any questions about your ability to conduct a court reporting event in-person or remotely, please contact our scheduling team at calendar@huseby.com.  We are excited to welcome you back to our offices once the time is right for you!

5 Questions to Consider While Preparing for Your Next In-Person Depositions

While a large portion of litigation has remained virtual, law firms across the country and starting to schedule in-person depositions again.  We at Huseby are taking extra steps to ensure a safe environment for you at each of our offices.  Each week we have been introducing helpful tips and informative guidelines to help you with whatever avenue you choose – remote or in person.  Our focus this week is on the five questions to consider while preparing for your in-person depositions. To learn more, continue reading below and check out this short video.

Question One – Will all parties be attending in-person or will some be remote?

This is completely up to each party.  Huseby tailors your depositions experience to your comfort level and we’ve even created a video that addresses different deposition attendance scenarios that we offer.

Question Two - How do I handle exhibits?

If each party is attending in-person, we recommend providing copies of the exhibits to each party or wear gloves provided by us to help avoid multiple people touching the paper copies.

When there are parties attending remotely, we ask that a copy be provided to us beforehand so that we can share with the court reporter.  As you prepare your exhibits, contact us – we’ll provide a quick demo and walk you through the process of electronically presenting exhibits.

If you’d like to learn more about our exhibit solutions, click here.

Question Three - Does the conference room allow for social distancing?

Each of our locations have implemented spacing guidelines that allow for proper social distancing.  As you enter the office, you will notice some things are different.  We have hand sanitizing stations setup throughout the office, floor markings to direct walking traffic, and other measures to ensure a safe environment.

To view our conference room layouts and spacing guidelines, check out our PDF.

Question Four – What are the safety options for the deponent?

Can the deponent wear a mask?  If not, we can provide a plexiglass barrier, or clear head shield for the deponent – whichever is preferred.  All of these are available at your local Huseby office.  Watch our short Return to In-Person Deposition video to learn more.

Question Five – Does the court reporter have specific guidelines?

We have taken extra time to educate each of our court reporters, videographers, and team members on Huseby’s in-person deposition guidelines.  You can view them by clicking here
